Giving a hunter a discount
Knock money off one hunter's order — a percent, a dollar amount, or no charge — with a reason kept for your records.
Give discount is on an order's page next to Adjust order, and on the counter's Collect the deposit screen so you can give one before the deposit is taken. The shop owner can use it, and so can any staff member the owner has allowed to take payments.
Three kinds
- Percent off — whole numbers, 1 to 100. A percent follows the real weight: 10% off stays 10% off when the final total comes in heavier or lighter than the estimate.
- Dollars off — a fixed amount. If the order later comes in under it, the order is free.
- No charge — the whole order, free.
The reason is required and is for your records. It shows on the order for your staff and in the audit trail — never to the hunter, who sees only "10% off", "$20.00 off" or "No charge" on their order page.
What it changes
- Before you finalize, the estimate drops. A walk-up's deposit is then worked out on the lower figure. An online hunter's deposit stays as paid — the discount comes off their balance.
- After you finalize, the final total and the balance due drop. If the hunter already paid a card deposit that's now more than the new total, the difference is refunded to their card automatically. The service fee isn't refunded.
- Online hunters get the same "your order was updated" text as a correction when you discount before finalizing. After finalizing, nothing is sent automatically — use Send payment reminder so they see the new balance.
What it can't do
- Go below cash already taken at the counter. Hand the cash back first, then discount.
- Comp an online order before it's finalized while their deposit is still held. Finalize first, then choose No charge and the deposit is refunded.
- Change an order that's already paid in full, cancelled, completed, or a donation.
You can edit or remove a discount under the same rules. Every change is listed in the order's change history, for you and for the hunter.
Type a reason you'd be happy to read in April — "veteran", "repeat customer", "made him wait a week". It's the only record of why the order went out light.
